The deadly Mumbai Terror attacks of 26/11 were among the biggest if the not biggest attack in independent India’s history. The ordeal lasted three days, during which over 200 civilians were killed by Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) operatives across multiple locations in the city. For the first time, the nation witnessed live coverage of such an event on most news channels, which significantly boosted their ratings. However, some channels and journalists crossed ethical boundaries by revealing the live locations of hostages, information that was reportedly monitored by the terrorists’ handlers in Karachi, Pakistan. This real-time intelligence allowed the handlers to guide the terrorists, further endangering lives.
One example of such reporting involves journalist Barkha Dutt , whose actions during the coverage of the Kargil War had already raised concerns about compromising sensitive information.
A video clip from her coverage of 26/11 illustrates similar issues.
Later, in an interview, Barkha Dutt acknowledged the mistake and admitted that broadcasting live operational details was an error. However, she argued that she was unaware the handlers were watching the coverage. Such reasoning raises questions, as it is logical to assume that the terrorists inside the hotel, with access to television, could follow live reporting themselves.
It’s no secret how Barkha Dutt bullied and strong-armed Chaitanya Kunte into taking down his blog on the 26/11 Mumbai Terror attack—because silencing criticism is so much easier than facing it.
Another unreported and covered up event by the media which if investigated could have seen many skeletons coming out of the closet.
The angle in article by Vaihayasi Pande Daniel was never investigated.
A known Hindu hater and the then Resident Editor of Rashtriya Sahara Urdu Newspaper Aziz Burney came out with a book titled ‘Mumbai 26/11 – RSS ki Saazish’ that was launched by one of the senior most Congress leaders and current Rajya Sabha MP Digvijay Singh on 6th December, 2010 (Babri Masjid Demolition anniversary) at the National Capital’s India Islamic Culture Centre. The book was nothing less than a collection of Charades and Figment of Burney’s imagination. What was the idea behind this target on a Nationalistic Organization like RSS ? Why was this date chosen for its launch? Did The incumbent UPA govt had intentions to flare up the Hindu-Muslim riots across the nation? Sadly the sold out media then had no spine to ask these uncomfortable questions to UPA 2. How Powerful Aziz Burney was during the UPA regime is no secret.
